Cost isn't everything. When you're packing a rifle, ammunition, binoculars, knifes and everything else you need in the bush while hunting or adventuring, the weight adds up fast. You want your rifle to be setup for fast, and percise shots without the weight if you don't need it. Please note that depending on which action you have, the chassis weight may very slightly. To be fair to each of the manufacturers, we used their most light weight chassis systems, buttstocks and grips. These weights do not account for a magazine inserted or ammunition. Of course by adding any additional accessories such as night vision hoods, optics, bipods and picatinny rails, your weight will continue to rise.
Everything in the outdoors is a trade off, unless you're on a quad or other powered machine. Savings 3lbs of off your rifle build, can allow you to carry and extra 1.36 Liters of drinking water (46oz), or whisky if you're into that...
